The Mamma Mia workshop was taken by Ensemble cast member Cameron Vear who was touring with the Stage show at Norwich’s Theatre Royal as part of their national tour.
Cameron provided an incredible first hand experience of working with industry professionals, whilst teaching students from age 8-16 choreography from 2 of the numbers from the Finale of the show - "Mamma Mia" and “Waterloo”.
I was given the opportunity to student teach in both the Junior and Senior workshops which was very exciting due to seeing the musical during its run in Norwich in the previous weeks.
The workshop itself was extremely enjoyable for me because of the high energy choreography which I loved! Even after taking part in the full out singing and dancing in both workshops, I was still having the most amazing fun at the end!
For me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of student teaching in the workshops was witnessing the students coming out of their shells and growing in confidence throughout the day, with many students who don’t take musical theatre classes at ARTS singing their hearts out and providing a full performance by the end of the session. I had never seen as many smiley faces that were so clearly loving every minute of what they were doing!
The experience as a whole was so enjoyable and informative and I will 100% be looking for the choreography we learnt when I inevitably see Mamma Mia again!
Thank you Cameron for a total ABBA-tastic workshop!!!!!
