Deputy Head Girl 2009:
Hannah Legood
I can honestly say that it was one of the biggest shocks of my life when it was announced that I was Deputy Head Girl of ARTS for 2009.

I have been dancing at ARTS since I was four and it has become such a big and important part of my life.

Deputy Head Girl 2009 / 10
ARTS is not like a school, it is a community, a family, and it includes everyone who joins whether old or young. All the teachers are so enthusiastic and encouraging, and the school gives its students wonderful opportunities which very few others get.

The best part of ARTS for me is definitely the performing.  The shows put on at The Walter Roy Theatre are so much fun and it is amazing to see how the separate dances grow into the professional performances that they become.  No-one is excluded; it doesn’t matter about age or ability or experience, everyone is given a chance and it is chances like this which stand out in my mind when looking back at everything I have done with ARTS.  How many people can say that they have danced at venues such as Her Majesty’s Theatre and Sadler’s Wells in London and even in Disneyland Paris?  I have danced at all these places and it is only through ARTS that I have been able to be so lucky.  One of the best experiences of my life so far has been performing at the Royal Albert Hall.  The building in itself is impressive but if you add to that the fact that so many famous people have performed on the very stage that you are stood on, then the feeling you get is one of such achievement and awe that it is hard to find anything else which compares.

Anyone who comes to ARTS is made to feel welcome instantly and I can’t wait to become more active in meeting new people and giving them the same sense of belonging which I feel when I am at ARTS.  I feel so grateful to Vickie, Janet and everyone else for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to working with everyone, especially Beth (Head Girl), to continue making ARTS the special place that it is.
