For the Awards 09 ceremony we set the challenge to all students to write a poem or short story that best reflected their own thoughts and feelings they had about ARTS. Many entries were sent in but only one could win with the prize of being allowed to read their piece at the event and have it published here on the website.
Thank you to everyone who sent in entries and congratulations to the winner and runners up.

I'd never been so far away, but I knew I was home.
You can feel the audience breathing.
The light is so bright that all that remains is you and the darkness.
Its like holding your breath, ready to jump.
Its like dying and being re-born. Like losing, yet winning everything.
Its fast but slow. Like falling in love yet being utterly alone.
You taste your own mouth and feel your own skin and I knew I was alive from that very minute.
I knew who I was and I knew what I had to do.
I was here to perform and perform was what I was made to do.
With the lights shining hard and my pulse beating a million beats a second,
I broke on to the stage with a smile on my face and a warm feeling in my heart.
From then, I knew a dancer was born!

I am a dancer and even thought I am quite small
I really love dancing best of all.
I am a dancer, I love to jump and leap,
I think I even dance in my sleep.
I am a dancer, I can point and spin,
When I dance it makes me grin.
I am a dancer, and one day when I've grown up,
I want to dance on the stage on my own.
I am a dancer, and a singer too,
Play some music and I'll show you what I can do.
I am a dancer, and at ARTS it's just right,
I wish I could go there every night.

I joined ARTS last September,
and I've got loads of great things to remember.
I've made a bunch of new friends, and we all have fun as we practice our bends.
I've learnt my shuffles and my hops, and oh how we laughed, I've laughed such alot.
In musical theatre everyone sings, and we dance and we joke and we do lots of great things.
just this year, I did my first show, it was amazing, fantastic, but I'm sure that you know.
It's been such a good year! and that's what I've done in my time here!
80-09 best time of my life!
