The Anglia Region Theatre School

I started my evening as part of the arts welcome team, a part of the arts family and a part I was happy to play. The evening got off to a great start with everyone arriving in high spirits-perhaps they knew there was a bar! Between photos being taken by the tree and everyone greeting friends, all staff, students and supportive parents took their seats relatively without fuss (not bad for a group of theatrics).  The entertainment started with the popular arts singers and their renditions of “let me entertain you” and “can you feel the love tonight”.

The speeches at the introduction of the night were, of course, a chance to look back at everything that has happened over the last year: many successful exams, Barcelona, velocity- Weren’t we busy bees -  and to introduce some new arrivals to arts with the first highly successful arts open day and of course baby Finley.

When Patrick started the awards the anticipation in the room was overwhelming and soon more and more proud arts students were walking off stage with a trophy in hand and a beaming smile. One of the most interesting awards this year was the introduction of best newcomer. This shows us all how quickly arts is growing and how it is a credit to us all.
A highlight of the evening was of course “master of the house”  performed by the musical theatre students, giving many a chance to sing solo and showcase their talents. The whole audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the chance to see the children perform on such a personal level.

Craig Catchpole needed little introduction to the stage as a popular arts favourite  and he did not disappoint with a complete range of songs for all us dancers to have a boogie to in our seats.

Along with the highs and the lows, the saddest part of the night was of course saying a formal goodbye to one of the biggest parts of the arts family, Katy Stangroom, who unfortunately for us has decided to move to London. We will all miss her greatly.

Overall the annual awards night was a huge success and a credit to those involved. Thank you to everyone that was involved in organising the event on behalf of all students at arts, without you our dreams wouldn`t come true.
